Since snacking is a "must" in summer (hello, juicy summer fruits!), today we'd like to give you 6 snacks that won't ruin your summer body plans and provide refreshment during warm summer days. Because with the right know-how, you can achieve your weight loss and fitness goals in a healthy and sustainable way, despite snacks!

You should look for whole foods because: the less processed, the better! This means colorful fruits and vegetables, clean carbohydrates (such as sweet potatoes or oats), lean proteins and healthy fats (such as avocado or nuts).

You're probably wondering what healthy snacks for in between should be? Don't worry, it's not just green smoothies or raw vegetables!

 

Sweet or savory rice cakes

This easy, summery, and delicious snack is perfect for you whether you're #TeamSweet or #TeamSalty! Rice cakes can be filled or topped with just about anything. A few ideas:
Eat rice cakes with hummus, tomato & cucumber; avocado, tomato & arugula; cream cheese & salmon; yogurt, fruit & honey; peanut butter & banana.

Watermelon

Satisfy your craving for something sweet and meet your hydration needs at the same time with watermelon! This summer fruit contains 92% water and is the perfect healthy snack with only 40 calories.
Eat sliced melon plain or with yogurt and other fruits, or mix watermelon with mint and lemon to make a refreshing mocktail.

Guacamole (avocado)

Avocados promote your feeling of satiety, as they are rich in healthy fats and full of fiber. Simply mash a ripe avocado with a fork and add half a red onion, a tomato, lemon juice, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Spread the guacamole on a rice cake or dip bread chips and raw vegetable sticks in it. You have a light but filling summer snack!

DIY trail mix

Store-bought trail mixes are usually high in calories and full of sugar, salt and oil. Luckily, homemade mixes are super easy and much tastier!
Simply mix your favorite nuts and seeds (e.g. cashews, walnuts, hazelnuts, pumpkin seeds) with cacao nibs, unsweetened coconut flakes and a handful of freeze-dried berries (instead of sugary dried fruits). This gives you a protein-rich summer snack full of healthy fats.


Lettuce wraps

Why not make wraps using lettuce leaves instead of tortillas? These are light, fresh, low calorie, and easy to roll up in minutes! Plus, you can throw in any protein (e.g. egg, turkey, tofu), your favorite veggies (e.g. tomato, peppers, mushrooms, onions) and yummy "sauces" like hummus or guacamole.

DIY fruit ice cream

How about homemade fruit-based popsicles with added protein? All you need is unsweetened Greek yogurt, fruit of your choice and a little honey or agave syrup. Mix it all together and freeze it with a stick. Voilá!
