Healthy through the autumn: these slimming products are now in season

Harvest time! It doesn't always have to be exotic superfoods - How you can enjoy fruit and vegetables from the region and lose weight at the same time is explained here.

Autumn is here and brings lots of treats that are not only healthy but also low in fat and calories.

Pumpkin, quince, lamb's lettuce & co. are true slimming products and convince with their richness of vitamins, minerals and fibre.

 

1. apples

Apples are in peak season from September and with their 97 kilocalories per 100 grams are the perfect snack for in-between meals. It ensures a long-lasting feeling of fullness and prevents ravenous appetite attacks.

Apples are also rich in vitamin C and potassium, so they strengthen the body's defences - a particularly important property in autumn, when the first waves of colds bypass.

 

2. grapes

For all those with a sweet tooth among us: grapes satisfy the ravenous appetite for something sweet. They also provide us with important vitamins and minerals.

They are particularly rich in vitamin B6, which the body needs for protein metabolism, and folic acid, which is important for blood formation, among other things.

Grapes also contain vitamin C and E. Minerals such as potassium and magnesium are important for muscle and nerve functions. The many fibres also ensure that the feeling of fullness is quickly reached. 

Despite their high sugar content, grapes, which consist of 81 percent water, are not particularly rich in calories, averaging 67 kilocalories per 100 grams.

They are virtually fat-free and are not fattening despite the relatively high carbohydrate content.


 3. quinces

Quinces are currently a big topic again. No wonder, after all the pome fruit is extremely healthy. A distinction is made in quinces between the tart apple quince and the milder pear quince.

Both are rich in minerals and vitamins: Quinces are particularly rich in pectins, which regulate the blood sugar level and aid digestion. This is why quinces can also be used as a household remedy for gastrointestinal infections.

The fruit also has a large amount of potassium, folic acid, vitamin C and zinc.

Quinces, which are in season from September to November, cannot be eaten raw. They are cooked and prepared as quince jelly, for example.

 

4. beetroot

This red power turnip is the ideal slimming product: with only 41 kilocalories per 100 grams, this autumn and winter vegetable is perfect for losing weight.

The tuber is also extremely healthy with its many fibres, protein, vitamin C and potassium. They also contain iodine, magnesium, sodium, phosphorus and large amounts of iron.

But that is not all: they also contain betaine, which reduces the risk of heart disease.
 

5. pumpkin

Pumpkin soup, oven-baked pumpkin or salad with pumpkin seeds - this delicious all-rounder provides variety in your autumn kitchen.

In addition, pumpkins consist of 90 percent water and therefore have few calories: Per hundred grams they contain only about 25 calories.

They contain a large proportion of beta-carotene, from which vitamin A is formed. This is important for our sight. Beta-carotene also protects our cells from aging and the development of cancer.

The satiating dietary fibres and the throttling effect of pumpkin flesh on the blood sugar level also help with weight loss.
 

6. corn salad

Lamb's lettuce is in season in autumn and winter, it does not mind the cold. The main harvest time in Germany is between October and December.

It is considered one of the healthiest salads and is particularly rich in provitamin A, such as beta-carotene, vitamin C and folic acid. In addition, the iron content in lamb's lettuce is higher than in other salads.

The essential oils provide its interesting taste and especially the valerian oil contained in lamb's lettuce is said to strengthen weak veins.
